Guard robbed minister to prove lax security
A cop accused of breaking into the home of Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa allegedly did so to prove how bad security is at the house.
A source close to Ianval Suilung Isaacs says the cop had complained about the lack of security at the Minister's home on several occasions but his bosses ignored him.
"He was assigned to protect the Minister but he wasn't even issued with a gun," says the source.
Isaacs, 33, appeared in Wynberg Magistrates' Court on Wednesday where he faces charges of malicious damage to property, theft and corruption.
Mthethwa's home in Claremont was burgled on Saturday and a laptop and cellphone were stolen.
Isaacs was arrested on Tuesday and released on R1 000 bail.
Isaacs' lawyer Zirk MacKay says his client was forced to resign from his job.
On Wednesday morning, two Bangladeshi men who Isaacs allegedly sold the items to appeared in court on charges of possession of stolen property. Bail was set at R400 each for Amdal Hossain, 42, and Mohammad Islam, 34.
